Just like with cross-stitching where you can use a fabric with the pattern pre-printed onto it or a blank fabric and ‘count’ the relative positions to place the stitches, so too with Diamond Painting you can work with a pre-printed canvas or a blank one. There are subtle differences though as this describes the number of facets on the drills and so the 5D newer drills give a higher sheen finish. You will often see DP kits described as 3D or 5D painting, a lot of people say they can’t really tell the difference and the terms now seem to be used interchangeably to describe the craft more to give the impression of dimension. As with cross-stitch one pixel of the image equates to one stitch or in this case one drill. What is itĭiamond painting is the process of developing a mosaic to re-create an image using tiny faceted “diamonds”, also known as drills by attaching them to a sticky canvas.

We’ll try to show you the similarities and differences between the two and how to get started with the hobby. I’m afraid ezPDF just lets the side down on iOS.We all love our cross-stitching but it can represent a serious investment of time, effort and materials - although the results are often amazing and well worth it.ĭiamond Painting is a newer craft that has a lot of similarities to cross-stitching and can even use the same patterns but produces results a lot faster.

Hard to install, barely works, late updates, large install file, and not as easy to use as the android version. They’re always playing second fiddle to Goodnotes.ĮzPDF reviewed with our android users as the best app by far, but with the iOS app, everything is different. GoodReader is pretty much a carbon copy of Goodnotes, so the same applies from a review perspective, but with the lower cost comes less innovation. GoodReader ($8) – 7/10 Based on 18 reviews Suffering from slightly lower reviews on apple than its android app, this markup has a suite of extra features, like a pattern scanner that automatically converts paper patterns to a pattern you can mark up! If you’re aching for a great app that’ll be supported for decades to come, Goodnotes is it, but with many free alternatives, I wouldn’t go with it for my first choice. But its also the most expensive app on the list.

Goodnotes is a brilliant app, it’s on its 4th generation, its been made to do pretty much anything you can think of to a pdf with ease, and its a dream to use. Goodnotes ($12) – 8/10 Based on 27 reviews However with more and more bugs being reported, with no customer service, and a VERY questionable set of permissions required to use, it’s no longer as good as it once was. You can undo incorrect markups, even if they were from weeks previous, and the app saves as you go, meaning no mistake app closing losing your work. It’s lightweight (doesn’t take up too much space on your tablet/phone), can open any pdf with ease, and its mark up tools appear to be designed especially for cross stitch.
It still works, its free, and its great at opening any PDF, however, the app is considerably larger than the alternatives, and it’s just not as good on our tests.įrankly, ezPDF has everything you want from a markup app.
Our personal favorite is the pattern scanner simply take a photo of your pattern and it automatically identifies the pattern and converts it to a pattern you can mark up!įoxit is a great app for editing pdfs on the go, however, it’s built with that purpose, and therefore doesn’t easily control cross stitch markups. They operate much like other mark-up apps, however, unlike others, they offer a suite of tools that are perfect additions.
Whilst Markup R-XP is a very new player, they have quickly shot up as a great app. Markup R-XP ($13) – 9/10 Based on 8 reviews
